Blog #1 Barrhead Accessibility Coalition – Join us

For years change agents, allies and advocates have rallied to the cause of accessibility. Barrhead has a dynamic and active coalition of community members.

An accessible community is one that is designed and built to meet the needs of all people, regardless of their abilities or disabilities. It is a place where everyone can participate fully in all aspects of community life, including work, education, recreation, socializing, and accessing essential services.

An accessible community provides physical and social environments that are inclusive and barrier-free, where people can move around easily, communicate with each other, and access information and services. For example, an accessible community may have sidewalks and pedestrian crossings that are wide enough for people using wheelchairs or walking aids, accessible public transportation, accessible buildings with ramps and elevators, and information and communication technologies that are accessible to people with disabilities.

In addition to physical accessibility, an accessible community also values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and recognizes the importance of accommodating people’s different needs and preferences. This includes providing accommodations and support for people with disabilities, as well as promoting awareness and understanding of disability issues and fostering a culture of respect and inclusion for all.

The Barrhead Accessibility Coalition values our community and our diversity. We are friendly and work hard at being accessible. We know we can do better…

We can do better with you.
